Chandragupta ruled around 321 B.C. By 303 B.C., his Empire stratched more than 2,000 miles, expanding his power westwards across central & western India. It united with North India politically for the first time. He created a bureaucratic government (A system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials, rather than by elected representatives.) & divided the empire into local districts. Each local district was headed by a royal prince. Each providence was also divided, where the officials assessed taxes & enforced the law. In 301 B.C., Chandragupta's son took the throne. He ruled for 32 years, then Chandragupta's grandson, Asoka, ruled next & brought the empire to its greatest heights. |
